Sugarcane doesn't just replace petrol — it outperforms it in the carbon ledger. Here's exactly how the transformation works, step by step.

Harvest & Mill

Mature sugarcane is harvested and crushed to extract juice. Bagasse — the fibrous residue — is set aside as boiler fuel.

Fermentation

Cane juice mixes with yeast. Sugars convert to ethanol and CO₂ over 24–48 hours. This is biology doing the heavy lifting.

Distillation

The fermented slurry enters distillation columns. Ethanol boils at 78°C — it separates cleanly from water and solids.

Dehydration

Molecular sieve beds remove residual water. You get 99.5% pure anhydrous ethanol ready for blending or direct fuel use.

⚗️

Blending

Ethanol blends with petrol — E10 (10% ethanol) through E85 (85%). For flexible-fuel vehicles, any ratio up to E100 runs clean.

Drive

Pour it in. The engine burns it. Higher octane = more knock resistance = more compression = more power. And the tailpipe breathes cleaner air.
